GelCount™ has been conceived specifically to detect, count
and analyze stained or unstained,
non-adherent mammalian cell colonies in soft agar ('3-D')
assays. GelCount™ supports 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96-well
plates as well as 35mm Petri dishes.

Key features:
GelCount is unique automated system for
high-throughput counting of cell colonies suspended in 3-D
media such as soft agar and methylcellulose. By combining
high-resolution/high depth-of-field scanning with
innovative digital image processing, GelCount provides a
cost effective solution to the difficult, subjective and
labor intensive task of manually counting colonies
suspended in media layers.
GelCount can simultaneously scan up to four multi-well
plates for high through-put screening. GelCount’s advanced
CHARM algorithm is capable of detecting both highly
diffuse and overlapping colonies and is able to
differentiate real colonies from biological debris,
bubbles and staining artifact.
GelCount can rapidly detect and count both stained and
unstained colonies down to 50 µm diameter.

 |
Cost Effective
GelCount is an automatic, easy-to-use and above-all
cost-effective solution. GelCount relieves skilled
technicians from the strain of laboriously counting
cell colonies with expensive microscopes and automatic
stages. |
| |
 |
Objective
GelCount is both accurate and objective. GelCount
eliminates ‘human error’ resulting from subjective
interpretation, bias and technician fatigue. GelCount
is consistent – effectively resolving the issue of
judgment-induced errors that occur between different
technicians and/or laboratories. |
| |
 |
Stained or Unstained
GelCount can identify and count stained and un-stained
colonies growing in most types of ‘3-D media’ such as
soft agar and methyl cellulose. |
| |
 |
High Capacity using Multi-Well Plates
GelCount can simultaneously scan up to four multi-well
plates (6, 12, 24, 48 and 96) for high-throughput
colony counting and screening. |
| |
 |
High Resolution
GelCount can count individual colonies as small as 50
µm in diameter – stained or unstained. |
| |
 |
Not Just Counting
GelCount’s feature-rich and easy-to-use software
provides powerful multi-well plate navigation and
preview functions and delivers a range of unique
statistical outputs including colony diameter, volume
and optical density histograms. GelCount output is
Microsoft® Excel® compatible. |
