Surface Probes
For microvascular blood perfusion monitoring from the surface of skin and organs. These probes comprise a black plastic body providing right-angled blood perfusion monitoring. Surface probes can be secured to skin using our double-sided adhesive rings. Since our surface probes do not contain metallic components they are entirely compatible with MRI applications.

Description and Applications

MSP100XP

Standard surface probe

These robust and easy-to-handle probes are ideal for making measurements of cutaneous blood perfusion anywhere on the skin surface.

MSP110XP

Digit surface probe

Specifically developed for measuring skin blood perfusion in the digits, the curved geometry of these probes make them ideal for studying conditions such as Raynaud's disease.

Autoclaveable.

MSP300XP

Miniature surface probe
(suturable)
Small and lightweight, suitable for non-invasive skin monitoring and for semi-invasive monitoring from muscle and internal organ surfaces. Double sided adhesive rings are available for reliable tissue attachment; alternatively this probe can be sutured onto the tissue.

Autoclaveable.

MSP310XP

Miniature surface probe
(non-suturable)
Small and lightweight, suitable for non-invasive skin monitoring and for semi-invasive monitoring from muscle and internal organ surfaces. Double sided adhesive rings are available for reliable tissue attachment.

Autoclaveable.

Needle Probes
For invasive or non-invasive tissue blood perfusion monitoring. These probes incorporate medical grade stainless steel.

Description and Applications

MNP100XP

Standard needle probe
For microvascular blood perfusion measurements in relatively inaccessible areas with limited clearance. (Typically positioned using an external clamp over soft tissues such as brain and muscle).

Approx. 19 gauge (~19G) surgical steel shaft.
Custom shaft lengths available to order.
Autoclaveable.

MNP110XP

Fine needle probe
This micro-needle probe has been developed for minimal tissue trauma during invasive insertion and is frequently used for measuring microvascular blood perfusion within skin, muscle, tumor, internal organ and brain tissues.

25 gauge (25G) surgical steel shaft
Custom shaft lengths available to order.
Autoclaveable.

MNP150XP

Bent tip needle probe
Using this specially shaped probe, blood perfusion within teeth and the gingiva can be measured to assess the viability of both tooth and gum. The bent tip can also facilitate access for monitoring blood perfusion in the oral and nasal mucosa. (Typically positioned using an external clamp).

Approx. 19 gauge (~19G) surgical steel shaft.
Custom shaft lengths and configurations available to order.
Autoclaveable.

Specialized Probes
For chronic microvascular blood perfusion monitoring from the same tissue site, we offer an implantable, light and highly flexible single fibre (SF) probe. The SF probe consists of a thin, 0.5mm diameter plastic (polymethyl methacrylate) fibre. Single fibre (SF) probes require a special adapter (the 'MSF Driver') for each instrument channel occupied by an SF probe. Since the SF probe and the MSF Driver are entirely polymer based, they are suitable for use in MRI environments.

Description and Applications

MSF100XP

Single-fibre implantable probe
This light and flexible probe has a 0.5mm diameter and a standard length of 30cm. Particularly useful for chronic implantation the MSF100XP can be directly inserted into tissue using a standard 22G i.d. cannula. The extra light coupling bead minimizes the total weight of the implanted probe. Flow measurements are made by attaching the MSF Driver (MSFD below).

The MSF100XP is a disposable probe not suited to autoclave sterilization.

MSFD XP

Connecting adapter for the MSF100XP  implantable probe
The MSF Driver is a precision-machined coupling system designed to interface with the MSF100XP probe and the instrument. The MSF100XP probe coupling bead is locked into position by a simple turn of the MSF Driver head.

Manufactured from black plastic and containing no metallic parts, the MSF Driver can be used with complete confidence in MRI environments.

Bare-fibre, flexible probe
Where needle probes are not appropriate due to their rigidity this 'bare-fibre' probe provides a flexible alternative. The probes consists of two 230 μm fibres held together using a bio-compatible sleeve.

Approx. diameter: 450 μm.
Not suited to autoclave sterilization.
Adapter required.

Quality and Performance
Every probe is manufactured to exacting quality standards to ensure reliability, durability and reproducible performance during operation.

Probe sterilisation
Probes with product codes featuring the 'XP' suffix can be heat sterilized (autoclaved) 10 to 20 times unless indicated otherwise. The single fibre type probe (MSF100XP) is recommended for single-use only.

Probe cables
Unless otherwise indicated, standard probe cables are manufactured from white flexible silicone tubing with an external diameter of 2.2 mm and standard length of 3 m. For MRI or remote sensing applications, longer probe cables can be manufactured to order (up to 8 m).

Needle probe shaft lengths
Needle probes can be supplied to order with shaft lengths of between 10 - 70 mm (standard length is 30 mm). Please contact Sales for custom requests.
